Representing a significant step change in the way Devon and Cornwall look at policing the new Middlemoor Criminal Justice Centre occupying over eight acres off the Honiton Road, Exeter replacing the Heavitree Road police station which will be sold and redeveloped. Devon and Cornwall Police were involved throughout so that the outcomes were not only fit for purpose in terms of delivering policing for a long time into the future but also in providing a healthy working environment for the staff and promoting staff wellness.
Working with Willmott Dixon, TClarke were nominated for the full MEP package deepening their ongoing relationship. When it came to selecting PVC-U cable management the specification demanded Cat 6 & 7 compliant trunking for data cabling. For areas where additional security measures were required, transparent product was required to demonstrate that no unauthorised bugging devices could be present without being seen. Flexible direct to site deliveries and ready availability on all items were also demanded so there were no unnecessary delays on the project.
Following a rigorous selection process, submission of samples and a competitive tender, the Meridian range of three compartment dado trunking from Centaur manufacturing was finally chosen. As a British manufacturer Centaur were able to meet all these requirements as regards product specification, quality and delivery expectation. The Meridian range has a soft edge styling which having curved hinged covers also has the practical use of restricting the placing of items on the top surface which apart from the untidiness this evokes also has an electrical safety element in avoiding spills from liquids. Pre-punched holes in the base eases installation as does the flexible internal and external bends for when wall corners are not exactly 90°. The generous compartments were also more than adequate for the five fibre optic cables that were required in some areas apart from the usual power and data cables.
“Centaur provided an excellent service through both pre-construction and delivery of the project” said TClarke Regional Procurement Manager, Robin Poad, “nobody could offer that sort of service particularly on something as unusual as the transparent materials. We have used Centaur previously and are grateful of the support from our supply chain partners in delivering our objectives to our customer”.
The Middlemoor site will have over 450 officers and will bring together teams that have previously been separated, such as response and investigation alongside major crimes and operations.
