Telergon’ s range of Protection and Isolation switch solutions are available from Specialist distributor Switchtec. Telergon, experts in the manufacture of AC & DC Switchgear, have introduced a range of Switches specifically to meet the demands for the Battery Energy storage industry.

Battery storage systems store excess energy produced by Renewable Energy systems such as Photovoltaic or Wind and store it for use when needed. This counterbalances the fluctuation between energy production and demand for electricity.

Aimed at Renewable Energy Installers, the range has been developed by Telergon to provide optimal and safe operation of these installations. Any Battery Storage Installation must incorporate solutions to protect and isolate each sector of the system. This includes isolating the Energy Generation Plant (Wind and/or Solar), Combiner Box for Photovoltaic systems, isolating the Batteries, isolating the power control centre, and also protecting the network connection.

The switch disconnector range has been introduced to meet the demand for this type of industry and the increasing use of 1500VDC power generation in photovoltaic (PV) utility scale systems. Using 1500VDC rather than lower voltages enables the PV Installer to save costs as higher-voltage systems enable longer strings, which means fewer combiner boxes, less wiring and trenching, and therefore less labour too.

The Telergon range incorporates switches from their S5000 & S6000 series switch disconnectors. This includes the S5000 range with ratings from 40A to 3150A 1000VDC and the S6000 DC range embracing 125A 500VDC through to 1800A and up to 1500VDC DC21B.

These are available with different terminal configurations and can be customised to suit the installation’s specific requirements and needs. The switches can be supplied with its input and output terminals at the top of the switch, at the bottom, or one at the top and one at the bottom – all options are covered.

The switches consist of a sandwich type contact arrangement with self-cleaning blade contacts and pre-arc zones to ensure long term, fault-free energy transmission. The contacts are silver alloy coated for a long, trouble-free electromechanical life. Apart from the contacts, the range is manufactured from high safety level, self-extinguishing materials, providing an excellent level of electrical installation, low smoke and a high resistance to electromechanical stress.

For versatility, a range of accessories and options are available to complement the range of switches, these include extension shafts, auxiliary contacts, terminal shrouds and Telergon’s much-lauded ergonomic handle.  The handle includes functional features such as the ability to be padlockable in the off position, a door interlock in the on position, a defeatable feature and it is rated to IP65.

The range is available in either 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 8 Poles and AC & DC variants, with the whole range is manufactured according to IEC 60947-3 and fully RoHS compliant, it is recognised by worldwide and important approval bodies such as Kema Keur, CE, Bureau Veritas, and Lloyds Register.

As with all products from distributor Switchtec, the company’s experienced, technically qualified field sales staff are available to discuss specific needs and to provide further information and support.
