As the UK solar market continues to grow, reliable protection and safe isolation of DC power are critical in every photovoltaic (PV) installation. Proteus Switchgear are proud to introduce our new range of IP65 Solar DC Distribution Boards, designed specifically for domestic solar PV systems and engineered to provide robust protection, efficient installation, and long-term reliability.
Solar panels generate DC power, meaning the supply cannot simply be switched off at the panel level. For this reason, safe system design requires DC isolation close to the inverter to allow installers and maintenance engineers to safely disconnect the array when required.
Our Proteus Solar DC Distribution Boards incorporate a 32A DC isolator, enabling safe disconnection of power between the solar panel array and inverter during maintenance, repairs, or emergency situations.
To further protect the installation, each board includes a 1000V Type 2 DC Surge Protection Device (SPD). Solar panels are typically installed on rooftops and are therefore more exposed to lightning strikes, switching surges, and transient overvoltages. The integrated DC SPD diverts harmful surge energy safely to earth, protecting critical components such as solar panels, DC cabling, and sensitive inverter electronics.
The range also functions as a solar combiner box, allowing multiple PV strings to be combined into a single output feeding the inverter. Available configurations include 1-in-1-out, 2-in-2-out and additional options on request, making the range suitable for a variety of domestic rooftop PV system sizes.
Designed with installers in mind, the boards are pre-wired and ready to install, reducing installation time and ensuring consistent quality on site. The robust IP65 enclosure provides excellent protection for indoor or outdoor mounting near the inverter.
On the AC side of the system, we also offer a dedicated range of Solar PV consumer units, designed to work seamlessly with our DC protection boards and safely distribute converted AC power throughout the home.
