Moffat Electrical Projects, part of the Moffat Group are based in Dunfermline, Fife and provide electrical and mechanical services to domestic and commercial clients throughout Scotland.
Concerned over the use of plastic trunking in three blocks of seven storey flats and following recommendations from the local Fire Brigade, Fife Council appointed Moffat Electrical Projects to carry out an upgrade to the use of steel for the cable containment throughout the blocks.
Tamlex as specialist steel cable management manufacturers were chosen and specified to supply their 75 x 50mm two compartment system for the installation The galvanised steel trunking provides generous wiring space and the two compartments permit the use and separation of power from CCTV and telecommunication cabling.
Many site visits were involved to overcome the numerous specials that were required to replace the existing pathways throughout the buildings. Celebrating its 50 years as a UK manufacturer, Tamlex was able to respond to the bespoke needs of the project and ship directly to site as necessary.
“We knew Tamlex was a very robust and good quality system” said Site Manager Neil McKay, “By using steel throughout we satisfied the latest 18th Edition as regards providing a non-combustible means of support for all cabling in the event of a fire. We knew this is a major concern to our fire fighters”.
Graham Simpson one of the site installation engineers commented that, “the Tamlex system is one of the most robust trunking systems I have ever used whilst also offering great flexibility as regards the lid fixings, which saved us a lot of time during the installation.
