Bringing commercial electric vehicle charging to Manchester Metropolitan University staff
Manchester Metropolitan University became the proud home of our first-ever pedestal commercial installation, marking an exciting milestone for both us and the university.
Highlights
Manchester Metropolitan University became the proud home of our first-ever pedestal commercial installation, marking an exciting milestone for both us and the university.
-
The Plug It In team installed our EDP01 7.4kW charging pedestals on three levels of the university's multi-story car park.
-
These chargers let two electric vehicles charge together, making it easy for staff to "top up" their cars during the workday.
-
Their compact, stylish design doesn't take up much parking space, making them perfect for places like MMU.
-
This move supports MMU's sustainability goals by encouraging more electric vehicle use and cutting down on carbon emissions.
This installation at MMU not only enhances convenience for staff but also sets an example of how universities can lead the way in sustainable mobility.
Project overview
We installed our EDP01 7.4kW charging pedestals across three levels of the university's multi-story car park. These compact and stylish units are ideal for workplace environments like MMU, offering:
-
Dual charging points, allowing two EVs to charge simultaneously
-
7.4kW of power per charger, providing efficient "top-up" charging during the workday
-
Space-saving design, minimising impact on parking capacity
Enabling employees to charge their cars while at work not only saves them time, but it also demonstrates the university's commitment to a greener future.
The challenges
Manchester Metropolitan University faced the challenge of outdated charging infrastructure that no longer met the growing demands of EV users on campus. They needed a solution that not only provided functional upgrades but also offered valuable insights into charging patterns and sustainability metrics.
The solution
Partnering with Monta, we delivered a charging solution specific to MMU's needs. This collaboration introduced advanced monitoring capabilities that made it possible for the university to:
-
Optimise charging schedules to reduce peak demand
-
Expand charging infrastructure strategically
-
Track and report carbon emissions reductions
-
Make informed decisions for future EV initiatives
The result
The installation, expertly executed by the Plug It In team, marks a significant step forward in our mission to provide reliable and innovative EV charging solutions within the local community. Projects like this play a crucial role in promoting electric vehicle adoption as Greater Manchester aims to have 200,000 EVs on its roads by 2024.
This transformative project not only enhances convenience for university staff but also sets a precedent for sustainable urban mobility, inspiring more institutions and individuals to embrace electric vehicles and reduce their carbon footprint.
