Centaur Goes Back to School
19-01-2016
Historic Parkside School in Bromsgrove has recently undergone a major refurbishment to include a new Library, Customer Service Centre and Registry Office. It will also contain the District Council Chamber and offices for Bromsgrove District and Worcestershire County Councils’ Bromsgrove based services.
The Parkside site contains a Grade II listed former school building as well as several mature trees which were sympathetically incorporated into the architect’s plans. The school building was constructed in 1909 and many of its earliest ancillary structures, such as the notable red brick boundary walls and glazed ceramic internal tiling, are therefore protected.
Specified with Worcester County Council and detailed by Clancy Consulting, local company Centaur Manufacturing were invited to tender for the cable containment and asked to provide a robust but aesthetically pleasing solution. Centaur’s Campus aluminum range, powder coated in RAL 9016 white was finally chosen meeting compliance with Part M of the Building Regulations by contrasting with the graphite coloured wiring accessories.
Tony Whitehouse of Installing engineers, Whittaker Bros. of Dudley, said, “we were glad to use local and UK based manufacturers such as Centaur. Having them close was useful when any specials or technical support was necessary and one less headache to have on supply”.
On completion of the project the JobCentre Plus may be the only office of its kind in a historic building and listed by English Heritage!
