12-07-2021
On 6th July ABB hosted the Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, on a tour of their Coleshill manufacturing site, one of four ABB locations in the Midlands and twenty throughout the UK
Earlier this year ABB announced significant investment in their Coleshill facility to install new high-capacity machinery to accommodate increased demand for their innovative new products from the Adaptaflex® and Harnessflex® product lines. ABB’s Coleshill factory is part of ABB Cable Management Products, a global leader in producing flexible conduit systems that protect critical electrical cabling in a wide range of industrial sectors.
Strong export growth has led to local job creation, demonstrating the region’s potential to capitalise in global growth markets.
The tour of the Coleshill facility included discussions about how ABB can support the Mayor’s ambitions for electrification of the transport network, alongside exploring how ABB can further participate in ambitions for achieving net zero, improving industrial digitalisation and the skills agenda. In 2019 ABB collaborated with Volvo Bus to launch a fully electric bus service for Birmingham Airport - The first electric bus service to go into operation at a UK airport.
Commenting afterwards Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands said:
"I was delighted to visit ABB in Coleshill this morning. With this expansion ABB are demonstrating how the West Midlands cluster can capitalise on global growth in sustainable markets. Continued growth in areas such as eMobility and battery manufacturing will encourage further investment in the region."
Dermot Lynch, Head of Business Development, ABB in the UK said:
"ABB was delighted to welcome Andy Street to our Coleshill facility. The expansion of our manufacturing capacity at the site is built on export growth to markets as far afield as Australia & China. ABB has four locations in the Midlands and we are committed to helping the region grow further in the future."
Lynch added: "As a global leader in sustainable technologies we recognise the Midlands as a region primed for growth with opportunities in areas such as emobility and Gigafactories. The Mayor has set forth an ambitious green agenda. Projects such as the ABB electric bus charging infrastructure at Birmingham Airport provide a glimpse of what can be achieved in the future."
