System integrators meet the future of smart buildings at ABB Cylon event
16-04-2024
ABB (www.abb.com) brought together a group of the UK’s leading building management system (BMS) integrators at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) on 27 March to showcase some of the significant developments that have resulted from the investment by ABB in the Cylon product portfolio since its acquisition in 2020. The event provided guests with the opportunity to discover more on the latest smart building technology for more streamlined energy efficient building automation.
Presentations throughout the day covered the latest in hardware devices, software developments and engineering tools that, when combined, can contribute to the development of holistic building automation solutions for both mechanical (HVAC) and electrical applications.
A key session focused on the ongoing plans for the evolution of the ABB Cylon Unitron smart building controllers and user interface software solutions. These developments are essential in ensuring seamless backwards compatibility to the 30,000 ABB Cylon Unitron installations globally.
The evolution of these solutions will ensure continuity and peace of mind for our dedicated customers as their buildings evolve to the next stage by providing the ultimate in sustainable automation solutions.
By holding the event at MMU, guests were also able to witness firsthand MMU's extensive smart building installation, which features an installed base of 25,000 control points connected to three generations of ABB Cylon Building Management controllers representing in excess of 1,500 controllers. These form the backbone of a smart building scheme that has supported MMU’s achievement of top position on the People & Planet League, a ranking scheme for UK universities, which provides a mechanism for MMU to not only demonstrate their green credentials but also drive further environmental performance within the university.
"It’s important that system integrators are aware of all the upcoming developments to support building owners in cutting energy consumption," says Kevin Lenton, Product Marketing Director for ABB’s Smart Buildings business. "We’ve received really positive feedback from our guests, who have said that they really valued the opportunity to network with our ABB sales, technical support, and product management teams: the experts that will help them work more efficiently across the traditional boundary between mechanical and electrical smart building control."
Other topics covered during the day included ABB smart building technologies such as ABB Fusion Air Sensor Devices, ABB Flexeon Unitary Controllers, ABB System Pro M Insite, ABB Electrical Metering portfolio, cloud based energy monitoring and targeting solution ABB Ability Building Analyzer, ABB Cylon CXpro and Aspect Engineering and Graphical Software enhancements, as well as an overview of the ABB iBus KNX portfolio.
