Heat Mat heads to Kilimanjaro
08-06-2016
Johanne Stimson, Heat Mat’s MD has volunteered to be 1 of 25 people to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February next year.
The expedition is organised by the Electrical Industries Charity with the aim of raising £100,000 to support medical research and the family of an electrician who sadly passed away in 2014.
Christopher Hendrie, a well respected, qualified electrician, died of bile duct cancer in 2014 at the age of 32. Money raised by the event will contribute to study of this incredibly rare from of cancer and provide financial assistance to the family.
Mount Kilimanjaro’s highest point is 5895m and will take the team three days to reach. The trek takes place over 10 days in February 2017, the same length of time it took for Christopher Hendrie to be diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, the cancer that killed him nine weeks later at the age of 32, leaving behind a wife, two children and another child on the way.
“As a manufacturer working in the electrical industry Christopher could have easily been a customer of Heat Mat's products so this is my way to give something back to an industry that, over the past 13 years, has been very good me and the company I run,” says Jo.
Jo has already begun raising funds for the Electrical Industry Charity with an aim or raising £6,000 and welcomes any donations for this admirable cause.
