Meet Our Team: Lee Randall-Pybus

Lee R Pybus is our new Business Development Manager (BDM) for the Southwest. Here, we speak to Lee to find out about his previous experience and what sets MEGAMAN® apart from other lighting manufacturers.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and experience?

I probably took one of the most diverse routes ever to get into a role like this. I spent 25 years as a professional singer – a Robbie Williams impersonator no less – but during the Covid-19 pandemic decided to try something new. I started my own maintenance business, with the help of my dad, and went to South Devon college to train to become a qualified plumber. The following year I then returned to train as a qualified electrician.

Shortly after this, I saw a Learning Support Technician role advertised in the electrical department at the college and was told by my lecturers to go for it. I was successful and spent the next few years teaching the next generation of electrical trainees, who were the first people to make me fully aware of Megaman by extolling the virtues of the RENZO Modular Bulkhead. Within this role, I was also controlling the department budget, which involved building relationships with electrical wholesalers, in order to get supplies. I then came across this role at Megaman, which looked right up my street.

What does your role entail?

My role involves travelling to different wholesalers in the Southwest, nurturing relationships, building trust and helping our customers with any enquiries that they may have. It is helpful that Micaela Abbott, our Sales Director, used to cover this area, as she still has a great relationship with many of our customers here and has been able to introduce me to many of them.

What do you like most about your role?

I like being out and about, visiting different places and meeting new people. I also love learning new things, so when I meet wholesalers and other customers who say that they have been in the industry for 25 to 30 years – that’s when my ears prick up. I think it is important to gather knowledge from people with this level of experience. The more I can learn each day, the more excited I am. I just love being around people and having a laugh. I get a buzz from helping people, no matter how small of an issue it is and I try to take that positivity with me everywhere and every day.

What sets Megaman apart from other lighting manufacturers?

Based on feedback from the wholesalers I’ve met so far, I would have to say it is the quality. Megaman is a recognised brand, and customers know that they will get good quality products and good quality service from their local Business Development Manager. My focus at the moment is building awareness that I am now their day to day contact for Megaman in the Southwest and that they can get that standard of service from me too. It makes me really proud to be the face of Megaman here.

What changes do you expect to see within the lighting sector over the next 10 to 15 years?

For us the focus is looking towards more sustainable solutions. As with our new FR-PRO fire rated GU10 downlight can – fixtures that can be given a new lease of life with a replacement lamp are the future of lighting – whilst being a safer and more affordable solution. The challenge is combining all the benefits of integrated fixtures – slimline, lightweight and minimalist – with the ability to replace the lamp, and that is what we are working on with many of our product at the moment.
