Meet Our Team: Natalie Collier

Natalie Collier is our Business Development Manager (BDM) for the North and is navigating the area with great effect. Here, we discuss what she likes most about the job so far, her background prior to joining MEGAMAN and what changes she expects to see in the future regarding the lighting sector.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and experience?

I’ve had some really varied and incredibly interesting jobs. I spent six amazing years in the Royal Navy with tours that included Afghanistan, Libya and the Falklands to name just a few. My job was onboard ships as an underwater warfare specialist, looking after sonars to ensure that they were working and communicating with the submarines. After that I did something altogether different; I worked as a purchasing assistant and manager for a furniture company working with landlords and investors.

From there, I went on to work for the electrical wholesale distributor Stearn Electrical and after 7 years working for the buying team I moved to the dark side – sales! I really enjoyed the lighting elements of the job, which is why I became interested in the sector. I saw a position at Megaman become available, recognised the company as a global leading brand in LED lighting, and thought I would be crazy not to go for it – and so here I am!

What does your role entail?

I cover the North, which includes Newcastle, Leeds and Kendal plus many more. We visit customers and build relationships, ensuring that we are providing the right lighting solutions and the best possible customer support. Which within a very short time being in the job, I could clearly see a big part of this is to offer guidance when it comes to finding the most practical cost-effective means of improving energy efficiency for a customer.

What do you like most about your role?

I love the fact that I’m now working within the lighting industry and have the ability to showcase the wide range of Megaman products: and help customers make the right decisions for their business and customers. I’m also really enjoying the diversity of meeting and talking to new people every day. There are so many different customers with different personalities, so if I had to pick just one thing - that is probably the best part of the role: the people.

What is the main challenge you face on a day-to-day basis?

Right now, making sure that all our customers – existing and prospective – benefit from our innovative and flexible range of lighting products. Megaman is a company that has been at the forefront of delivering lighting excellence for the past 30 years and I, like all of the team, are committed to maintaining those high standards

What changes do you expect to see within the lighting sector over the next 10 to 15 years?

I can see that the future is all about sustainable lighting solutions that deliver energy efficiency and support wellbeing in terms of helping to create and maintain healthy buildings. One thing I really admire about the lighting sector is its ability to innovate at every level – so I’m sure product development will mean in fifteen years’ time the likes of intelligent lighting, data and digitalisation will mean that we will all be moving toward more system solutions.
