Marshall-Tufflex’s ‘Twin’ trunking duo resolves size issue

Marshall-Tufflex’s Twin165 cable management solution has come up trumps for yet another major educational new-build project, offering generous compartment sizes in a trunking profile able to accommodate height restrictions around window sills.
Specifiers working on the new £22 million Arts and Sports Academies at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus required an integrated cable management solution for both buildings.
The college had previously used Marshall-Tufflex’s Twin Plus trunking and was happy with its performance and generous two full-sized compartment cabling capacity. But when specifying trunking to carry power and data supplies throughout the new buildings, mechanical and electrical services consultant Desco was limited by height restrictions around window sills. Twin165 solved the dilemma, offering a solution for these tricky areas with a flexible, medium-sized, cable containment solution that met the specification and required cable capacity perfectly.
Both Twin Plus and Twin165 were specified for the new buildings, which boast the latest technology, a 4-court sports hall in the Sports Academy and a media and music complex in the Arts Academy. Both have full teaching resources.
Karen Wade, director of facilities at Sunderland College, said: “We have used Marshall-Tufflex trunking not only in the new Sports and Arts Academies’ projects, but also in other smaller refurbishment projects across the estate. We find Marshall-Tufflex trunking both flexible and durable which makes it suitable for use in a busy college environment.”
The Marshall-Tufflex products were supplied by Electric Center, Stockton-on-Tees, and installed by Castle Building Services, which carried out the mechanical and electrical engineering services. Although familiar with installing Marshall-Tufflex products, Castle Building Services had not worked with Twin165 before but reported that it was very straightforward to install.
Twin165 is gaining a name for its flexibility and capacity; it also solved a desk-to-window dilemma for specifiers working on an academy in Stockton-on-Tees. On this project other trunking solutions were considered but Twin165 allowed the most space between window sills and desks while still delivering the required capacity.
Twin165 is a tamper-proof, all-in-one unit with double compartments to carry large amounts of power and data, which can fit around spaces such as windows and radiators with ease. Although medium in size, it provides greater volume than traditional trunking of a similar proportion and has a bend radius of 50mm, with adjustable internal and external bends for improved flexibility.
CAT 6 and CAT 6a compliant Twin165 and Twin Plus, which exceeds all current cabling standards, are ideal for educational establishments requiring complex and large amounts of data and power cabling. They are designed for straightforward installation and can be easily re-configured when required.
