Our pioneering anti-microbial luminaire CleanLight has been proven and backed by experts as a suitable disinfectant against SARS-CoV 2 – the virus that causes Covid-19.
Following a series of international studies, field trials and tests, Dr Carl Edwards – an expert in medical device development and regulatory affairs stated in a letter to our Managing Director Mark Garrett “CleanLight has a significant activity against SARS-CoV 2”
Dr Edwards, a commercial manager at Leicester University with over 35 years commercial and academic experience in clinical science and microbiology reviewed the data as part of his work with the Leicester Life Sciences Accelerator.
His confidence in the patented light technology has led CEF – the UK’s leading electrical wholesaler – to make our patented lighting systems CleanLight and Protect available through their network of 390 stores nationwide, giving CEF customers priority access to these innovative new products.
The two new products – CleanLight and Protect, are available to order now and can be used in isolation or as part of a round the clock disinfectant solution.
CleanLight is an LED panel that harnesses the power of Titanium Dioxide (Ti02) to clean the air. The Ti02 coated LED lighting panels generate photocatalytic oxidation which neutralises airborne pathogens in a 7.5m2 area creating an anti-microbial, anti-toxin, and anti-odour zone. This makes it an easy to install, low cost and maintenance free solution to combat airborne viruses and bacteria.
The Protect mobile unit uses high spectrum UV-C ultraviolet light, which is proven to deactivate bacteria and viruses within a 60m2 area. This is highly effective against surface contamination.
Using the two products together provides an effective infection control solution addressing the issues of airborne and surface contamination.
The technology is already in use across China but hasn’t yet been adopted widely in the UK. We started Lightico in July 2020, with a vision to bring these products to the UK market and to help in our national fight against SARS-CoV-2.
CleanLight is proven to kill over 98% of bacteria and viruses* in the air. This makes it more efficient than other proven solutions like ozone and bleach, and, because it is chemical free, CleanLight has no side effects for humans, so can work around the clock to keep you safe. And, whilst that has been enough evidence for some markets to take the product and use it effectively in the fight against Coronavirus, for the UK market we needed to prove directly that our product kills the virus that causes Covid-19. With the confirmation from Dr Edwards combined with our research and test results, we now have that.
Dr Edwards letter states:
“I would like to comment that the data provided confirms a good performance as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal product against an internationally recognised range of organisms used for assessing disinfectant properties.
The CleanLight product produced significant reductions in E. coli, S. aureus, K. pneumoniae and C. albicans; that would be appropriate with it being regarded as a disinfectant product.
The additional research also shows CleanLight has a significant activity against SARS-CoV-2. This would be expected given the results against bacteria and fungi, but the explicit evidence provides additional support for the CleanLight being a generally applicable disinfectant product.
The intended use of CleanLight as part of a whole room hygiene solution is well supported by the data that has been generated. The exposure times of approximately an hour, generating 80-99% decrease in viable organisms, would translate well into reducing the microbial burden of a space illuminated constantly throughout a working day.”
