Introducing EDF Energy - Sizewell B Power Station

08-12-2020

Pegler

Sizewell B is the UK’s only Pressurised Water Reactor and also the most modern nuclear power station in the UK.

Project Profile

The site has recently (2017) been taken off-grid to allow for a £60 million maintenance programme.

It was during this time that the connections to the HVAC system situated atop the roof of the Welfare Building were to be replaced. Due to the nature of the site a solution was required to install larger sized pipework without the use of heat. In addition, the site is situated close to the coast so corrosion was also a notable factor when choosing the correct piping system.

Client: Dodd Group

Product used:

  • VSH XPress large size 5" and 6"
  • Applications:
  • AHU and CHU connection

Market Sector:Commercial Energy

VSH XPress integrated piping system was specified for the replacement of the 2 x CHUs and 1 x AHU. The installation of the VSH XPress piping system carried out by M&E contractors Dodd Group was noted for its speed, cleanliness and ease in which it seamlessly integrated stainless steel fittings from 3” through to 6”.

What EDF Energy said:

Ben Cox, EDF Energy Site Engineer said: “We have been really impressed with the VSH XPress system which negated the need for hot works and offered superior corrosion resistance, plus gave us the ability to use the same stainless steel press system in the larger sizes – three of the key factors for this site. The overall look of the finished installation is excellent and, I can confirm we will be specifying VSH XPress Stainless for other planned work at Sizewell.”
